What’s in a name?

As a child of two physician parents I have always felt drawn to a career in medicine.  Growing up making weekend rounds in the burn unit with my dad or meeting happy patients of my mom’s around town gave me quick insight into what an honor and privilege it is to be a physician and surgeon.  As I began to envision my own future as a doctor I could only picture one thing: having my own practice in Baton Rouge, just like each of my parents did.

When my mother (Dr. Reilley) decided to forgo her retirement from a long career in plastic surgery and return to work with me, the decision to move home and start practice in Baton Rouge was a no-brainer.  But starting a practice (essentially a small business) is no joke in 2020 and it has been a true family venture to bring it to life.  Our family is blessed with web developers, videographers, designers, artists, lawyers and accountants, all of whom have played a role in making this dream of mine a reality.

If you’ve gotten this far on our site, odds are you’ve realized that Ford is a family name shared by both physicians in this practice; it’s also shared by many of the family members mentioned above who helped create this special place and many who came before us who we honor.  You might have also heard of “the FORD technique” used in psychology.  This refers to a method of quickly cutting through awkwardness and developing meaningful relationships with those around us.  The acronym stands for Family, Occupation, Recreation and Dreams.  It is meant to be a reminder of shared values and principles on which we can all connect.  When I learned about the FORD method, the decision for the practice name was a done deal!

So here at Ford Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, family and home are important to us.  Values that stand the test of time are important to us.  We believe there is no place for “trends” in plastic surgery but that treating our patients with respect and in the spirit of service is what stands the test of time.  We decided to launch this practice to be something unique, authentic and of value for Baton Rouge.

We hope our patients will feel at home here under our family’s care.
