Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
You’ve heard the expression “the eyes are the mirrors to the soul”. As a part of the important central triangle of the face, your eyes are one of the first facial features that others notice about you.
Eyelid skin is thin and subject to premature aging changes from excessive sun exposure. As the upper eyelid stretches over time it may sag and interfere with makeup application. Attempts to raise the lid by elevating the brows will lead to forehead wrinkling. Once the upper eyelid skin touches the lash line you may lose peripheral vision. Those with allergic conditions may suffer from repeated bouts of swelling that give a puffy, tired appearance. Aging lower eyelids may droop making you look fatigued.
Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, can remove excess skin, redundant muscle, and fat and reposition these structures into their more youthful position. Eyelid surgery is performed as an office procedure under local anesthesia and light sedation. Most patients experience a few days of swelling and bruising with a fairly quick return to normal activities.
If your excess upper eyelid skin is impairing your vision, your surgery may be covered by insurance. Your ophthalmologist can perform a visual field test which will help you have the operation paid for (partially or totally) by your insurance.
Not infrequently the surgical result is enhanced by the judicious use of neurotoxins such as Botox or Jeuveau combined with medical-grade skincare.
Let’s work together.
