Liposuction
Liposuction is surgery to remove localized fat stores accessible beneath the skin using specialized powered tools (canulas).
Liposuction is one of the most commonly performed procedures in the United States. It is performed to remove stubborn collections of fat resistant to diet and exercise. Where you accumulate such fat deposits are determined by your genetics: for many women, these deposits are located in the hips and outer thighs while for men they are more common in the abdomen.
Liposuction is an effective, permanent solution to remove unwanted excess fat from a variety of areas: in the neck (double chin), upper arms, abdomen, hips, thighs, and “love handles”. You need to be fully aware that this is not a weight-loss surgery. Liposuction contours the body. Weight gain will only cause new fat deposits in different areas. But the surgery combined with a healthy diet and exercise program will lead to your long-term satisfaction. Dr. Chiasson will carefully listen to your concerns and assist you in selecting the procedure that most suits your unique situation and goals.
Small areas of localized fat may be treated in the office under local anesthesia and oral sedation. Larger areas are best treated under general anesthesia. After surgery, you are placed in compression garments which you will wear for several weeks. It may take several months for you to see your final result.
Again, liposuction is not a weight-loss procedure. It is best if you are at or near your desired weight.
